Privacy policy

HomeSchool Scribe is made in Villa Rica, Georgia. This policy covers our iPhone and iPad app, website signups, and beta applications. The short version: your family's homeschool records stay on your devices and, if you choose to sync them, in your own iCloud account. The app does not send those records to us, and we do not sell or share them. Information you choose to send through a signup form or an email is handled separately, as explained below.

What HomeSchool Scribe stores

HomeSchool Scribe stores the information you enter to run your homeschool:

• School profile: homeschool name, administrator name, address, and state.
• Students: names, birth dates, grade levels, optional photos, and notes.
• Courses, lessons, grades, attendance, hours logged, test scores, and activities.
• Portfolio entries: photos of student work with titles, captions, and tags.
• Settings such as grading scale, school days, automation switches, and an optional parent PIN.

All of this is kept in a database on your device. The HomeSchool Scribe app does not require an account, email address, or password.

iCloud sync

If your device is signed in to iCloud and iCloud Drive is enabled for HomeSchool Scribe, the database syncs through Apple's CloudKit to your other devices using the same Apple Account. The data is stored in your private iCloud database, which only your Apple Account can read. Apple's handling of that data is covered by Apple's privacy policy. You can turn syncing off in iOS Settings under your name › iCloud › Saved to iCloud.

On-device assistance

HomeSchool Scribe can draft a progress summary for a report card. The draft is built on your device from the grades and attendance already on the card, and you edit or replace it before it prints. When you photograph a book's contents page, the app reads the text on your device and can tidy the list using Apple Intelligence's on-device language model. Nothing from these features is sent to us or to any third party by HomeSchool Scribe. Availability of the on-device model depends on your device and settings.

Purchases

Scribe Plus is sold through Apple's App Store. Apple processes the payment and tells HomeSchool Scribe only whether an active subscription or purchase exists. HomeSchool Scribe does not receive your name, payment details, or billing address. Family Sharing is managed by Apple.

Your copies, reports, and backups

HomeSchool Scribe keeps its own folders in the Files app on your device, under On My iPhone › Scribe (the app's short name): Media (photos and clips, one folder per child), Reports (every report you generate, as PDFs), and Backups (a dated copy of your records as a plain JSON file). They are written on your device each time you open the app. You can point any of the three folders at another location you choose, such as iCloud Drive; if you do, that location's provider handles the files under its own policy. PDF reports and JSON backups are otherwise saved or shared only where you send them, for example to Mail or AirDrop. HomeSchool Scribe does not upload them anywhere.

Analytics

We use Amplitude to understand how people use our website, so we can make it better.

On our website, Amplitude stores an identifier in a cookie and your browser's storage. It records the pages you visit and what you click, and it records anonymous replays of visits. Anything you type, such as your email address, is hidden in those replays. Amplitude may also estimate your general area, such as your country or city, from your internet address.

The HomeSchool Scribe app doesn't use Amplitude or any other analytics. It has no crash-reporting code, no advertising identifiers and no third-party code, and it doesn't track you across other companies' apps and websites.

None of this is tied to your name or email address. We don't sell it or use it for advertising. Amplitude handles it under its own privacy notice. Apple may also share anonymized crash reports and App Store statistics with us if you have opted in to sharing analytics with developers in iOS Settings.

Website signups and beta applications

If you join our launch list or apply for a beta through our website, Facebook, or Instagram, we receive your email address and the answers you choose to submit. A beta application may ask about your device and operating-system eligibility, whether you homeschool in the United States, and whether you can take part in testing. Where the form provider supplies it, we also receive the name of the form or campaign and your email permission. When you sign up, we note how you found us—the link you came from—along with your sign-up.

We use this information to review applications, manage invitations and participation, send the updates you asked for, and understand which campaigns bring applications. We use Mailchimp to manage our email lists and send emails. If you submit a Facebook or Instagram form, Meta processes the form and provides the submitted information to us; eligible submissions may be transferred to Mailchimp through the connected integration.

Our Mailchimp emails may measure delivery, opens, and link clicks. Those measurements are separate from your homeschool records and from anything the app does. Meta and Mailchimp also handle information under their own privacy policies: Meta Privacy Policy and the Intuit Global Privacy Statement, which covers Mailchimp.

You can unsubscribe with the link in any marketing email; we keep unsubscribe preferences so we can honor them. Write to support@myhomeschoolscribe.com to see, correct, or delete signup information we hold. Signup forms are for adults and never ask for children's homeschool records. Signing up for emails does not create an account in the app or give us access to the records on your devices or in your iCloud.

Course Builder

Course Builder. The Course Builder on our website runs entirely in your browser. What you type there, including any names, isn't sent to us or to anyone else, and that page has no analytics or session recording. The file you download goes only where you send it, and names you type for each child in the Course Builder are never put in it.

Children's privacy

HomeSchool Scribe is used by parents and stores information about children as part of homeschool record-keeping. That information is entered by the parent and stays under the parent's control on their devices and iCloud account. HomeSchool Scribe does not collect personal information from children directly, and Student Mode does not gather anything beyond the lesson check-offs a child makes.

Your control

• Delete a student, course, or record inside the app to remove it from your device and, if syncing, from iCloud.
• Deleting the app removes its local database. iCloud data can be deleted from iOS Settings under your name › iCloud › Saved to iCloud › Scribe.
• Export a JSON backup at any time from Records > Backup, or open the Backups folder in Files.
• Delete the copies in Files like any other files; the app will write fresh ones the next time it opens unless you delete the app too.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at the same address with a new date.
