HomeSchool Scribe
Terms of use
Last updated September 3, 2026. Draft for attorney review.
These terms are an agreement between you and HomeSchoolScribe LLC ("we", "us"), the maker of the HomeSchool Scribe app for iPhone and iPad. By installing or using the app you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't use the app.
What HomeSchool Scribe is
HomeSchool Scribe is a planner and record-keeper for families who teach at home. You enter your school's details, students, courses, and lessons; the app keeps attendance, hours, grades, portfolios, transcripts, and other records from what you check off, and prepares documents you may choose to file with your state.
It is not legal advice
The app includes summaries of homeschool requirements for each U.S. state and the District of Columbia, deadline reminders, and documents prepared in a state's format. These are planning aids written in plain language. They are not legal advice, they may be out of date, and they are not a substitute for reading your state's law or asking a homeschool legal organization. You are responsible for confirming what your state requires and for filing it. The app never submits anything to a state on your behalf; when it opens a state website, you are dealing with that website, not with us.
Your account, your data
The app has no accounts. Everything you enter is stored on your device and, if you turn on iCloud, in your own iCloud account under Apple's terms. We do not receive, store, or see your records. You own them. You can export them at any time as a backup file from Records ▸ Backup, and you can delete them by deleting records in the app, deleting the app, or clearing the app's iCloud data in iOS Settings. Our privacy policy explains this in more detail.
Subscriptions and purchases
Some features require Scribe Plus, sold as a yearly or monthly subscription with a free trial, or as a one-time lifetime purchase. All purchases are made through Apple's App Store under your Apple Account and Apple's terms.
- A free trial converts to a paid subscription at the price shown when the trial ends, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the same price and length until you cancel in iOS Settings ▸ your name ▸ Subscriptions. Cancelling stops future renewals; it does not refund the current period.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's refund policy; we cannot issue them ourselves.
- Family Sharing lets members of your Apple family use your purchase where Apple allows it.
- If your subscription ends, your records stay on your device, remain readable, and can still be exported. Prices may change; a change applies at your next renewal and Apple will tell you first.
Using the app responsibly
You agree to use the app only for keeping your own family's homeschool records, to enter information you have the right to enter, and not to copy, sell, reverse-engineer, or interfere with the app. Student Mode is a simplified view for a child to check off their own lessons under a parent's control; the app is designed for use by the parent, who is responsible for what is entered and shared.
Sharing from the app
Reports, cards, and reels you create with the app are yours to share. Whether and where to share anything about your children is entirely your decision. Every card and reel carries the HomeSchool Scribe mark; please leave it there.
Ownership
The app, its design, its name, and the tally mark are ours and protected by copyright and trademark law. These terms don't give you any rights in them beyond using the app. Your records are yours.
No warranty
The app is provided as is. We work hard to make it accurate and reliable, but we can't promise it will be free of errors or always available, or that a state summary will be current on any given day. To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied.
Limits on liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including a missed filing, a lost record, or a decision made in reliance on a state summary, and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for the app in the twelve months before the claim. Some states don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
Ending the agreement
You can stop using the app at any time by deleting it. We can end this agreement if you break it. Sections about ownership, warranties, and liability continue after it ends.
Changes
We may change these terms. The current version is always at www.myhomeschoolscribe.com/terms.html with its date. If a change matters, we'll say so in the app's release notes. Using the app after a change means you accept it.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Georgia, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
